Teaching
I taught a friend of mine about logs once, because he had been struggling with his math.I wrote down the basic equation for him in big letters on top of a notebook page, then had him solve progressively more complicated problems on logs from his textbook. I usually waited for him to get through a problem on his own first, then gave hints, but refused to tell him the answer outright. When he got the answer, I would clap or make approving noices or pat him on the shoulder. Occasionally, I'd make comments about how difficult this was at first and that practise would make huge improvements. He got the hang of it with practise, and seemed to have gotten the concept and applications of logs firmly rooted in his mind.

Now that I've gone through the basics of learning, I can see that I was using positive reinforcement (the approval) and succesive approximations. Also, some modeling may have been involved through the use of one simple equation. i dont think i would do it any differently now.
